In the next section of reading, Weschler continues his extensive research of Mr. Wilson’s museum. He now is going into a detailed yet quick history of earlier examples of what museums similar to what Mr. Wilson is trying to display in his museum. In Weschler’s secondary research he found pieces familiar to the ones he has seen in Mr. Wilson’s museum then he found some extravagant ones that were made of body parts such as gall, kidney stones, baby bones, and a mayfly. It was remarkable that he was finding pieces that dated all the way back to the sixteenth century, Renaissance time.
While finding all of these facts it made it clear to Weschler why Mr. Wilson would base his museum out of LA, the real question was where else could he have a museum like this that would be appreciated by the guests? LA is almost like a fantasy land and had history of the men of wonder and it would only make sense to have his museum there. Finding America shocked Europe for a century and a half; Wilson’s “Cabinet of Wonders” did the same for Weschler, he was overtaken by the curiosity of the museum and it encouraged Weschler to intrigue others to get involved and be taken over by this “spore”.
