Dehli

Initially, I thought that this article was going to be able the dangerous atmosphere and the crime (especially against women) that is rampant in the cit of Dehli.  As I read one, the author talked about the beauty of the city, and how it is filled with modern and ancient places and people.  He really seems to love the city and it seems as if he wants the audience to look past the violence of the city and see it for the historical place that it is.  Upon further thought, it really seemed to me like the author was trying to write off or brush under the rug the violence that is rampant in Dehli.  He talks about Dehli as a beautiful place that is slowly absorbing all of the rural villages around it, thereby losing the culture of the villagers.  However, later he states that “ the close juxtaposition of different worlds, disjointed in time, may make the city dangerous and violent, but it also gives it its beauty, its energy, its fascination, and it makes it what it is.”  It is almost like the author is forgiving the violence in Dehli because it is just misunderstood.  Dehli is expanding and definitely a place of both old and new ways of life, however, that should not be an excuse for violence and crime.
