New Delhi Response

New Delhi is a unique city, in that, as one intellectual said, New Delhi lives both in the 21st and 12th centuries. At the same time the huge populations, largely undocumented, and the city corruption, are turning small villages on the outside of the city into slums and boutiques for rich women to shop in. All of that being said, the ruins and remains that exist in New Delhi are as wondrous as those of Rome and Cairo. This fact is overshadowed, though, by said corruption and the violence against women.

Even though so many negative things can be said about this city, the author still feels it is his favorite place to live. The juxtaposition between the urban sprawl and the dense history of the city is what appeals to him. I’ve never been there, so I can’t speak from experience, but a city with that much cultural heritage and history has got to be at the very least and interesting place to live.
