Emerson and his group of authors lay out some of the many ways that an ethnographer can review his field notes, refine them, and gain new insight from them so that he may go on to write a more complete and insightful work. One of the most stressed pieces to this process is that the author must walk away from his field notes for a good amount of time before he can come back to them and read them with a fresh perspective. Emerson et al maintain that rereading your notes in the same order that they were written will help you gain a lot of insight and the ability to connect your understanding to initial reactions. Overall this reading was very helpful in trying to relay the best and most efficient ways to get the most out of your field notes, but it was much to long and tedious for concepts that are quite simple.
