In this paper, the writer tells of
the analytical processes after the research has been completed. One should go
about this process by going line by line through the research, trying to
identify patterns and develop theories of the particular subjects of said
research. It’s not necessary to do the analysis in any particular order, but
the steps must all be there. In analyzing the notes, one must frame questions
for each note to examine its relevance, and to potentially construct a common
thread and argument to the research. It’s pretty important to also have waited
and given time to separate oneself from the research in order to properly analyze
the subjects, not as close relations, but as subjects of research. This step
leads some researchers to wait months or years to start, or even abandon the
project altogether.
As a guide to research, or rather
the analysis of research, this author does a great job going through the steps
of analysis, giving examples of how other people have done this task. The “codes”
the author discusses are simply a tool to construct a common web of thought to
the research, in order to make a more pointed and direct argument. This tool is
really there to simplify the thought process of analysis, giving you a starting
point rather than floating around in thin air.
